This painting was sponsored by Mike (Ginge) Cundell who is a member of the Submariners Association, Barrow-in-Furness Branch. Mike served aboard "Churchill's two sister submarines (HMS/M Courageous - Vickers Limited, and HMS/M Conqueror - Cammell Laird). From 1970 to 1976. Mike comments as follows "these fine submarines gave outstanding service to our country, and were considered the work horses of the fleet at that time".

- Displacement: Surface 3,500 tons, Submerged 4,500 tons.
- Propulsion: Single Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) providing steam for two English Electric steam turbines geared to a single shaft. 15,000 shp.
- Speed: 28+ knots submerged.
- Armaments: 6 x 21 inch torpedo tubes - forward. 26 reloads - Marconi Tigerfish Mark II, Sub- harpoon.
- Complement: 13 Officers. 103 ratings.

Historical Facts:

The first of three "Improved Valiant" class nuclear powered submarines. Sister ships Courageous ( Vickers Limited), and Conqueror (Cammell - Laird).1991. De-commissioned. Laid up at Rosyth Dockyard in Scotland.
